All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship Aspirant in Ilorin South, Chief Adedotun Adebayo Ajala in an interview shares his vision for the local government.

Can we meet you?

I am Chief Adedotun Adebayo Ajala. I am from Ọmọdẹ̀mi town in Akanbi ward II, Ilorin South Local Government of Kwara State. I am a Professional Accountant, member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and a registered member of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.

As a Professional Accountant, why are you joining politics?

Well, I never thought it would be this fast. I was preparing to go into politics when I turned 60 but as God would have it, it came earlier.

How would you describe your chance of winning APC primary election? Is anybody sponsoring you, or how?

Sponsoring? Not at all. Nobody pays for anything, even the form, so there’s no need for sponsors in the first place. I believe when you start something, it’s just like those who started years ago—they began on a particular day. So I’ve started.

Well, being new is not a sin. Like I said before, winning is another ball game entirely. I believe in God, and i know my leader believes in quality, competence, and expertise. You can see the quality of the jobs he has been doing in the State. He will not go for anything less.

Are you the only one with those features?
Don’t get me wrong. I am only telling you what my governor is like. Moreover, this is an election, not a selection, so those who will elect know who to vote for. They will vote for people that can complement what the governor is doing at the moment.

Do you have a godfather or who is your godfather?

Oh! I see. You also affirmed that I’m new in politics. It will shock you that I don’t know anybody. I believe godfathers are a source of distraction. I have a role model.

Distraction how, and who is the role model?
Distraction as in sharing one’s loyalty with many people. You can’t serve two masters. Your godfather will be expecting your loyalty, and if you do, what will you give your leader since that loyalty is 100%?

What made you come out at this time?
I told you last time that I didn’t know it would be this fast. I believe it’s an appointed time. My community (youth and elders) called on me. They encouraged me to represent them. I told them I’ve never done this and that I don’t even know how to. They said, “You will learn it when you get there,” and they prayed for me.

you are a titled Chief, Bọ́bajíròrò. How did you become Chief?

You know the Yoruba adage that says, “You can only be installed as chief when you have good character.” I believe in this so much.
