After spotting a Golf 6 GTI driving recklessly on the N1 highway on Sunday night, the Maitland Flying Squad went all Bad Boys, resulting in a classic high-speed chase.
The chase ended when the fuzz finally cornered the GTI at the Sable Road interchange, resulting in the arrest of two men and the recovery of a whopping R1.5 million worth of mandrax tablets. We also didn’t know mandrax was still in vogue.
According to the police, the two men became ‘restless’ when officers approached the car, but according to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, they “were quickly brought under control.”
“When the driver of the VW Golf became aware of the presence of the patrol vehicle, he sped off, which resulted in a high-speed chase.”

You gotta love the “they were quickly brought under control” part of this story – would have loved to see that.
