American hurdler Alaysha Johnson, 27, secured a coveted spot for the Paris Olympics after finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Trials. With a personal best of 12.31 seconds, she, alongside Masai Russell, who clocked 12.25, qualified for the event. Johnson couldn't hold back her emotions after making it to Paris, though her emotional response drew criticism from conservative commentator Michael Knowles. However, tech giant and track enthusiast Alexis Ohanian stepped up to support Johnson, urging fans to ignore Knowles' negative remarks.

In a heartfelt post-race interview, Johnson expressed her gratitude and defiance. "It was all God. Everybody all the time said I wasn't good enough, said that I didn't deserve it. So, I did this my way, my team's way, and the way it was meant to be," she said.

Dedicating her victory to marginalized communities, she added: "This is for the hood babies, the people who are poor and come from nothing, this is for everybody that looks like me that was ever doubted. And I did it with a Black designer on my chest. This is what I stand for and I'm making a way for everybody in my position."

Johnson's statement sparked backlash from Michael Knowles, who dismissed her efforts to pave the way for others. In a YouTube video, he claimed, "The only people in Olympic running who might not think they can make it are the people who don't look like her." His comments were echoed on social media, further fueling the controversy.

Ohanian rallies behind Alaysha

Amid the uproar, Alexis Ohanian, known for his support of women athletes, defended Johnson. Responding to the criticism, Ohanian tweeted: "Don't give this clown any of the attention he craves." His support was part of his broader advocacy for women in sports. Ohanian has announced plans to invest in track and field through his venture 776, aiming to create better opportunities for women athletes.

Ohanian's commitment extends beyond Johnson. He also cheered for Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone after she broke her own world record for the fifth time, securing her spot in Paris. Sharing his excitement on social media, Ohanian posted a picture of the scoreboard with the caption, "Wow WR @GoSydGo ".

Through his actions, Ohanian continues to champion the rise of women athletes, inspired partly by his desire to see his daughters achieve their dreams in a fair and supportive environment.
