Nigerian Troops Crush ISWAP Stronghold in Timbuktu

In a decisive operation, troops of the Nigerian Army targeted the stronghold of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the Timbuktu triangle of the Lake Chad Region, resulting in significant casualties among the militants.

The week-long clearance operation, led by the troops of Sector 2, Special Forces Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with HYBRID forces and Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), received aerial support and reconnaissance from the Nigerian Air Force. This joint effort led to a successful assault on the terrorists, resulting in the elimination of numerous fighters in the area.

On April 15, airstrikes conducted by the NAF Component in the Kafa and Mafi general area resulted in the complete destruction of two enemy vehicles and the neutralization of all occupants.

Continuing their offensive, the troops encountered and engaged more terrorists on April 16, 2024, leading to further casualties among the insurgents. During the operation, the troops recovered a Hilux truck and a 105 Pack Howitzer artillery gun from the terrorists.

The remarkable display of strength and coordination between ground and air forces has instilled confidence and hope among the local populace in the area. Citizens expressed optimism that the relentless efforts of the military signal the approaching end of the terrorist threat in the region.
