Sail into wordplay victory via our latest contest.

Greetings! If you’ve landed here on July 7, chances are you’re participating in NIT’s Peninsular Odyssey, an online quiz competition in collaboration with The Indian Express. Below, you’ll find our 15×15 MELA crossword, which brings together music, cinema, dance, art and literature. All registered U-25 teams (or lone wolves) must solve this grid within an hour, under video invigilation by the NIT team. Winners will receive premium Express subscriptions, vouchers and an Instagram feature. We hope you enjoy the game, and wish you the very best.

P.S. Non-registered readers can also solve for fun. Do keep in mind that this grid is a few notches tougher than our usual daily games! We recommend the Mini Crossword for beginners.

Guidelines for all contestants

  1. Your solving window is 60 minutes (7.30pm to 8.30pm IST).
  2. Team size cannot exceed two people. Each team or solo player is allowed a single entry.
  3. How we score: Target (ideal) time – 30 mins | Correct word – 10 points | Bonus for every minute saved – 15 points | No negative marking | Time is a secondary tiebreaker.
  4. Once done solving, please press ‘Submit’ and enter one name (e.g. ‘Piku Banerjee’) and one email as identification in the popup box. Entries will not count without this.
  5. Teams will be able to submit partially filled grids as well. Bonus will not apply for these entries. For any scoring disputes, the Editor’s decision will be final.
  6. Solving Tip #1: The answer is in the same tense and singular/plural form as the clue. Example: ‘Poke fun at’ = TEASE. Not teasing, or teased, or teases.
  7. Solving Tip #2: Make sure to switch between horizontal and vertical clues often to make the best use of your time.
