Euro 2024 star would rather join Real Madrid than Newcastle United
Newcastle United have had a busy summer so far, but they are set to miss out on a player who has impressed during Euro 2024.
For Newcastle last season threw up some questions about the squad depth available to Eddie Howe at St. James’ Park.
Competing in the Champions League stretched the Magpies’ squad to the limit, with injuries eventually taking their toll, and ultimately leading to a seventh placed finish in the Premier League.
Objective number one this summer has, therefore, been to bolster Newcastle’s squad and the arrival of Paul Mitchell as director of football should help speed along the transfer process.
One player Newcastle have been linked with once again this summer is Adrien Rabiot.
However, Tuttomercato suggest that he would rather join Real Madrid than make a move to St. James’ Park at this moment in time.
It must be stressed that Newcastle’s priority positions have been identified, with midfield not high on the agenda during the transfer window. Howe has the returning Sandro Tonali from a 10-month betting ban, in addition to Joe Willock and Joelinton nearing full fitness after lengthy spells on the sidelines.
This leaves the Newcastle manager with plenty of options for a place in the midfield next season and will give Howe a welcome selection headache following last season’s injury crisis.
Rabiot has been exploring his options having left Juventus as a free agent following the expiry of his contract. The France international has been linked with a move to other Premier League sides including Manchester United and Liverpool.
A move to England’s top flight now appears unlikely with the midfielder preferring a move to Spain. Whether Rabiot gets his wish of a move to Real Madrid remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Newcastle will focus on their priority targets after the club confirmed Paul Mitchell as their new Sporting Director. A move that will allow business to quicken this summer.
