Arsenal might well be close to signing Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna but they are still keeping close tabs on other defenders as well.

The Gunners are looking to finalise a deal for Calafiori this week with reports over this weekend suggesting terms have been agreed with the player and it’s just a case of Arsenal and Bologna doing the deal on their side.

Mikel Arteta will be delighted to get a deal done for a left-sided defender.

However, while Calafiori is set to arrive to strengthen the ranks, Arsenal and Arteta are still casting their eyes over more defensive players.

And according to reports, the Gunners had their scouts in Germany last night to watch one of the Euros quarter-finals.

Arsenal send scouts to watch Ferdi Kadioglu against the Netherlands

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Arsenal are keen on Kadioglu after making their interest known earlier in the summer.

However, that interest has now advanced a touch further and it’s reported here how the Gunners had Kadioglu watched in person last night for Turkey.

The 24-year-old defender – who can also player further forward if needed – impressed once again despite Turkey bowing out to the Dutch.

Like Calafiori, Kadioglu is comfortable down the left-hand side and would give Mikel Arteta yet another option in that area of the pitch.

Fenerbahce are thought to be looking for around £34m to sell their star man but that sort of fee will not put off Premier League sides.

Indeed, Newcastle are also reported to have joined Arsenal in watching Kadioglu last night as well.

Should Kadioglu arrive at The Emirates, then there will be further question marks over the futures of players like Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Both players featured for the Gunners last season but the left side was often seen as the only problem position for Arsenal.

Calafiori and Kadioglu coming in, then, could well signal the end of their time in north London.
