…. Visit Traditional Ruler of Ajalli community, Council Secretariat

The newly appointed Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Casmir Nwafor, today assumed duty with an unscheduled visit to Eke Oko market in Oko to ascertain the level of hygiene in and around the market.

Nwafor who frowned at the heaps of refuse scattered at some strategic locations in the market advised those who carry on their businesses within the market to imbibe the spirit of cleanliness even as he warned them against trading in an unhealthy environment.

He directed the leadership and traders in the market to ensure a coordinated efforts to evacuate the heaps of refuse in and around the market within the next one week or risk closing the market.

At the abattoir located within the market, the Transition Committee Chairman frowned at the level of untidiness he witnessed in the area,  describing it unhealthy and unacceptable. He admonished the butchers to improve on the level of hygiene in and around the abattoir warning that such a place where meat for human consumption was being handled should not be left unkempt.

He directed that the abattoir be cleaned up and heaps of refuse generated from the abattoir and heaped around the place be evacuated within one or risk closure even as he encouraged the butchers to maintain absolute environmental cleanliness.

He thereafter met with the market leaders and representative of the Umuadas to fashion out ways to maintain the environmental cleanliness of the market and to restore the market master plan.

At the First Gate of Federal Polytechnic, Oko and Total Filling Station axis of the community respectively, the Orumba North Council boss met with the management and drivers of the Ekwulobia Urban Mass Transit Limited and the leadership of the Okada riders where he frowned at the indiscriminate parking of vehicles and motorcycles along the Ekwulobia-Oko-Umunze road which he said obstructs free movement of both people and vehicles.

He appealed to them to desist from indiscriminate parking along the roadside adding that it contributed significantly to the avoidable gridlock and carnage occasionally experienced along the road. He further urged them to help the government in its vision to build a liveable and prosperous homeland for the residents of the state by conducting their business in an orderly manner without infringing on the rights of other road users.

Responding, the Manager of the Ekwulobia Urban Mass Transit Limited, Oko branch, Mr. Ebube Ezenwankwo thanked the Chairman for his fatherly disposition in addressing the issue of indiscriminate parking by the drivers and assured that they would comply with his directive to ensure free flow of traffic in the area.

At the Eze Ajalli Palace, the Transition Committee Chairman said that he came to officially introduce himself to the traditional ruler whom he described as the host and landlord to the Local Government Secretariat and to seek his royal blessings before commencing his official duty. He reiterated the need for an all inclusive government while assuring the traditional of his readiness to work with every stakeholder to achieve a prosperous Orumba North even as he harped on the importance of a cordial relationship with the host community.

Responding, the traditional ruler of Ajalli, His Royal Highness, Eze Augustine Nwangwu thanked the Mayor of Orumba North for the visit and promised to give him all the necessary supports that he needed to enable him succeed on the assignment given to him by the governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

While urging him to always feel at home any time he is within the vicinity of the community, the visibly happy traditional ruler offered some heartfelt prayers and commendations on the Council boss.

During a meeting with the Head of Local Government Administration, HLGA and Heads of Department, HODs at the Council Secretariat at Ajalli later in the day, Hon. Nwafor who is also a retired Army Captain urged them to redouble their efforts to deliver on their mandate to the people of Orumba North.

He assured the management of the local government that he actually came to work and better the lots of the people of Orumba North while enjoining them to join him in his quest to work for the people even as he urged them to de-emphasize personal gain for now assuring that when its time to benefit from the outcome of their hard work, they would surely be rewarded.

“Head of Service, I am going to work here. I am not going to be coming to work from my town, I will live in Ajalli. I have located where I will live. I won’t live in Oko, I won’t live in Awka, I want to change the face of Ajalli. I will work closely with all of you and build a cordial relationship with you. We will put measures in place to motivate the workers. But at the same time, we have to encourage them to be coming to work and to cooperate with us.

“I am very simple and accessible. We will all work well together and collaboratively”, he assured.

Hon. Barr. Nwafor was accompanied on the visits by his close aides including the men of Orumba North Vigilante Services.
