'A good fit' - Liverpool sent Jonathan David transfer message amid contract uncertainty
Liverpool have been told by one of their former stars why they should consider signing Lille striker Jonathan David. The Reds have previously been credited with an interest in signing the Canada international, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Reports linked Liverpool with signing David back in 2020, before the Reds instead chose to bring Diogo Jota to Anfield from Wolves.
The striker has now been linked with a move to Newcastle United before the end of the January transfer window, and it remains to be seen if the interest from the Reds remains.
David being out of contract in the summer means he is able to negotiate with clubs outside France about signing as a free agent at the end of the season.
This includes Liverpool, who have been tipped to sign a new striker in some reports in recent weeks.

Ahead of the game, former Reds striker Emile Heskey has explained why his old club would be wise to try and sign David in the weeks or months ahead.
“Lille’s Jonathan David has been linked with Liverpool and I could see him being a good fit up top, so we’ll have to see what kind of performance he’ll put in in tonight’s game [in the Champions League]," Heskey told Casino Scout.
“If were the recruitment team as Liverpool, I’d definitely be bringing in a young striker, someone who has scope to grow as a player within the club.
“You never know whether young players will take a bit of time to settle, or if they’ll hit the ground running like Erling Haaland did at Manchester City.
"I don’t think Liverpool need to look at anyone in their ‘prime’.”
