Detained is an upcoming thriller that sees a woman stuck in an interrogation room with no memory of the night before, and Screen Rant has a look at the trailer and key art. The movie was directed by Felipe Mucci, whose past work includes episodes of the TV series The Coroner: I Speak for the Dead and the film Two Deaths of Henry Baker. The movie was written by Mucci in collaboration with Jeremy Palmer (Rewrite), and stars Abbie Cornish and Laz Alonso.

Where You Know The Stars Of Detained From

Abbie Cornish, the lead of Detained, is a versatile actor who appeared in a wide range of projects before signing onto the psychological thriller. Cornish’s resume includes her role as Cathy in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Anne in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Clara Murphy in RoboCop (2014), and Sweet Pea in Zack Snyder’s 2011 film Sucker Punch. As the Detained trailer sets up Cornish’s Rebecca Kamen locked in a claustrophobic interrogation room, the actor’s dramatic abilities are sure to be on full display.

Detained also promises a different kind of role for co-star Laz Alonso. In addition to being in proejcts like My Dad the Bounty Hunter and The Mysteries of Laura, Alonso plays Mother’s Milk in The Boys, which is the role that has arguably put him in front of his largest audience yet. Detained looks to offer a fun contrast to Alonso’s role in that series—while Detained’s Detective Avery and The Boys’ Mother’s Milk both appear to wield authority, the trailer above suggests Avery could be a more sinister, villainous character.

The cast of Detained also includes a number of other recognizable faces. Silas Weir Mitchell, known in part for playing Monroe in 123 episodes of Grimm is in the film, as is Falling Skies’ Moon Bloodgood. The movie also features Breeda Wool (UnREAL, National Treasure: Edge of History), John Patrick Amedori (Dear White People), and Justin H. Min (Beef, The Umbrella Academy).

Detained will be released in theaters and Video On Demand on August 2, courtesy of Quiver Distribution.
