Former Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC winger Kgaogelo Sekgota has begun training with newly-promoted DStv Premiership side Magesi FC.

FARPost has established that Sekgota is likely to complete a move to the Limpopo side pending the finalisation of the negotiations.

Magesi returned for pre-season on Monday, and a few new arrivals are expected as the club assembles a team for the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.

One of the players likely to be given a lifeline is Sekgota, who has been a free agent since parting ways with Stellenbosch earlier this year.

The 27-year-old’s surprise departure from the 2024 Carling Knockout Cup champions was explained by the club’s head coach, Steve Barker, who cited disciplinary issues.

“Look, I think it’s important that we’re a club that’s one of our mottos and slogan is more than football,” Barker once said. “So, we’re there to support and help players and encourage them to be professional about what they do.

“And in both instances, we were there to support and help the players and give them a level of counselling and support throughout,” added Barker, who was referring to Sekgota and Darrel Matsheke, whose contract was also terminated.

“But unfortunately, sometimes you just reach a stage where you cannot continue with inexcusable behaviour. The club has to make a stand.”

FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STAR BACK IN POLOKWANE TO REVIVE HIS CAREER

This publication has gathered that Sekgota was among the players who reported for training in Polokwane on Monday morning. Magesi are yet to announce their new signings ahead of the new season. But indications are that Sekgota could be joining the side.

The former Bidvest Wits player started his career in Polokwane for amateur club Polokwane United before he secured his move to Stumbras in Lithuania. Sekgota also had a stint at Portugal side Vitória Setúbal before he returned to South Africa.
