Man docked over alleged stealing, assault

A 26-year-old man, Sulaimon Mohammed, on Monday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged stealing and assault.
The defendant, of no fixed residential addresses, is facing a three-count charge of stealing, assault and malicious damage.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 26 and June 24 at Oglogbo community, Seme border, Badagry, Lagos.
Okuoimose said that the defendant stole 10 bundles of Aso-Oke, valued at N150,000, from one Michael Tenhey, the complainant.
“The defendant, on June 24, unlawfully assaulted the complainant by beating him.
“Mohammed also damaged one Samsung Galaxy A22 phone belonging to the complainant.
“The offences contravene Sections 287, 171 and 339 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.J. Aina, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
Aina said that one of the sureties must be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax clearance from Lagos State Government.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Aug. 20 for mention.
