How Arsenal fans reacted to Mykhailo Mudryk being subbed off for Chelsea last night

Chelsea and Arsenal battled for Mykhailo Mudryk’s signature in the 2023 January transfer window.

In the end, it was Chelsea who came out as victors, and it does not look like Arsenal fans have forgotten that.

Mykhailo Mudryk started in his side’s humiliating 5-0 loss to the Gunners last night but failed to make an impact.

He was taken off after the hour mark, ending a disappointing night for the winger.

It was a completely different game for Leandro Trossard, though, who Arsenal ended up signing instead of Mudryk. He opened the scoring in under five minutes, but Chelsea legend Joe Cole still thinks Mudryk could turn out to be the better addition out of the two.

Arsenal fans’ reaction to Mykhailo Mudryk substitution

Arsenal supporters will disagree with Cole after the impact Trossard has made, especially in comparison to Mudryk.

Since joining the Gunners from Brighton & Hove Albion last year, the Belgian has recorded 22 goal contributions in the Premier League. In that same time, Mudryk has registered just eight.

Arsenal fans can move on from the whole Mudryk saga, but it does not look like everyone at the Emirates has.

According to Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella, the 23-year-old was booed off when he was withdrawn from yesterday’s London derby.

Should Mykhailo Mudryk have joined Arsenal instead of Chelsea?

In hindsight, yes. It would have worked out better for all three parties.

Arsenal is a more stable environment than Chelsea right now; Mudryk would have found it easier to settle and adapt playing in a team with a foundation and under the same manager.

It perhaps would have seen Chelsea have to settle for an alternative, maybe a more experienced name like Trossard, which is exactly what Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad is lacking right now.

It lacks experience and players with Premier League pedigree. Signing Mudryk, who is now one of the club’s most expensive ever additions, was never going to change that.
