'Impatient' Mason Greenwood sets Man Utd transfer deadline – with Old Trafford outcast making preference clear amid links to teams in Serie A, La Liga & Ligue 1

goal.com 2024/10/5

Mason Greenwood has given Manchester United a tight deadline to sort out his future after bids have so far fallen short of the club's asking price.

  • Greenwood wants future resolved
  • Unlikely to play for Man Utd again
  • Valencia & Lazio bids fall short

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to the Daily Mirror, Greenwood wants to know where he will be playing football in 2024-25 within the next week. The forward is described as "growing impatient" due to the uncertainty that continues to hang over him.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mason Greenwood Getafe

The only thing that does seem clear is that Greenwood, who remains under contract with United until 2025 with an option to extend by a further year, has no future at Old Trafford. The Mirror adds that he is "cool" on the idea of joining Marseille, despite reports to the contrary last month, and would still rather head back to La Liga after his loan with Getafe in 2023-24. United are asking £40 million ($51m) but have at best received a £25m offer from Valencia. There have been other rumours of a £21m bid from Lazio. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid continue to monitor the situation, with Juventus also interested.

DID YOU KNOW?

The official squad list on ManUtd.com has been updated since the end of last season and the departures of Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane, with all players - including Jadon Sancho - shown in the new 2024-25 kit. But Greenwood's thumbnail remains greyed out and continues to have an 'On Loan' label.

WHAT NEXT FOR GREENWOOD?

Mason Greenwood Getafe

Whether United will get their asking price for Greenwood, who scored eight times in 33 La Liga appearances for Getafe, remains unclear. If they fail to command an acceptable fee for a permanent transfer, the club have previously been tipped to trigger the 12-month option in his contract and arrange a second loan to give them another year to sort things out.
