Super Eagles Coach: Garba Lawal Calls for Patience

Addressing concerns over the team’s recent performances, Lawal emphasized the importance of giving the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) time to make the right decision regarding the team’s management.

In a chat with brila.net, Lawal acknowledged the dissatisfaction among fans but highlighted that patience is crucial during this period of transition.

“It’s a difficult time. People are afraid,” Lawal stated. “I believe countries are developing in football. There’s no small team.”

He also questioned the commitment and attitude of the current players, stressing that even with a top-tier coach, success depends significantly on the players’ efforts and dedication.

“There’s no small country. You can even sense it in Euro 2024. So that’s why you see people are afraid. The countries will never say die until the end of the game. So it’s really disturbing. I don’t see that hunger of winning. That is the problem at the moment. We want to see more hunger in them.”

“Honestly, in football, there’s almost a changing moment that you can do extra for you to deliver and win.

“We don’t see that at the moment. So, whether you have a foreign coach or indigenous coaches. Sometimes it’s not about coaching now, it’s our players.

“No matter your philosophy or methodology, if they’re not ready to deliver, there’s nothing a coach can do. I believe we have to change their mindset and their character and their attitudes, very important.”
