Five die during auto crash in Lagos

No fewer than five commuters were reported to have died and over five others sustained varying degrees of injuries during an auto crash along Mile 12 – Ikorodu road in Lagos State.

It was learnt that the accident occurred on tip of the Mile 12 bridge while the victims, including traders hawking on the road, were standing to either do business or awaiting commercial buses to board for their various destinations.

As gathered, the accident occurred yesterday at about 6:25 pm after the articulated truck with number plate KTU 973 XX, experienced brake failure while ascending the bridge and crushed the commuters and hawkers advertising their wares in traffic.

Eyewitnesses narrated that the accident was caused by the truck driver while trying to maneuver into the main road, saying during this process, the truck experienced brake failure.

When our correspondent arrived the scene at about 7pm, an ambulance was seen leaving the scene of the accident with the victims.

Confirming the accident, the spokesperson for the FRSC, Lagos Command, Olabisi Shonusi, in a short statement made available to newsmen, disclosed that five persons passed on.
