Michael Barrymore claims to have new information relating to the death of Stuart Lubbock who died at his home in 2001.

After a party at Barymore’s home on March 31, 2001, Stuart, who was 31 at the time, was found lifeless in the swimming pool. Michael, 72, and two other witnesses had varying accounts of how Stuart was found. Michael insisted that he was found on top of the pool, while others claimed he was discovered at the bottom.

It emerged that Stuart had traces of both drugs and alcohol in his system. Following his death, pathologists discovered severe anal injuries with a senior Home Office pathologist later stating they were consistent with a sexual assault.

Three months after Stuart’s death, Michael was arrested alongside Justin Merritt and Jonathan Kenny on suspicion of murder. He was later arrested again on June 14, 2007, by Essex Police on suspicion of murder and sexual assault in the case involving Stuart. in July 2015, Essex Police confirmed that Michael had been wrongly arrested – this was down to administrative errors.

Now, in a new post in view of his 68.9K followers on X, Michael has claimed that he has new information about the case. He penned: “Since Saturday’s documentary I have had multiple people (medical professionals, former police, witnesses etc.) contact me with NEW information.

“It has been a fascinating yet deeply disturbing few days reading what they have to say with my team. This message to me came in just this morning (If anyone else has any other information that will help the Lubbock family finally find peace please speak up).”

Michael shared a message he received from a mystery follower who claimed: “Now my mum was a paramedic in Essex (retired) and she had been in hospital when they brought Stuart in, and helped the changeover. And once everything started coming out, my mum said there was NOTHING wrong with that boy’s anus when she came in. She was there 100000% percent my mum isn’t wrong and she doesn’t lie.”

The mystery follower who went on to send Michael their phone number claims that his mum was never spoken to by the police about the incident. Michael has always denied allegations of rubbing cocaine onto Stuart’s gums during the party. In November 2022, Michael sued Essex Police for his wrongful arrest and valued his claim at more than £2.4 million. But in August 2017, the High Court ruled that he would be entitled to “more than nominal” damages but this decision was later overturned by the Court of Appeal.

Michael later dropped his compensation claim and no money was paid out to him. His lawyers focused on Michael’s claims that Stuart could have sustained injuries to his anus while in the mortuary.

A pathologist later claimed that Stuart’s injuries were only four hours old when he was examined at 4pm. Stuart had been pronounced dead at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow at 8.20am that morning. The lawyers claimed that Stuart’s body, including his anus was examined and photographs were taken showing no signs of injuries.

However, a court ruling found no evidence to suggest that the injuries sustained to Stuart’s anus may have been sustained before the arrival of emergency services and not while he was in a mortuary.
