Popular Nigerian human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has taken a swipe at Spokesperson of the Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, after he stated that the 33-year-old graduate, identified as Erasmus Emeya, was a cultist and r*pist and died of asphyxiation and not torture in police custody.

The mother of the deceased, Rebecca Emeya, in a recent interview on the Berekete Family show, alleged that Erasmus was tortured and killed at the Nyanya Police Station in Abuja.

However, the force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement released via X, denied claims that Erasmus was tortured to death.

According to him, the deceased was arrested for cultism and rape, stressing that an autopsy carried out on him revealed Erasmus died of asphyxiation and not torture.

Adejobi said the autopsy was done in the presence of the doctor(s) of the deceased family.

Reacting to the police statement, Harrison, in a post via his social media page, faulted Adejobi’s remark, stressing that Erasmus was never convicted, yet he was being tagged a cultist.

He also said the police failed to investigate the incident to unravel the truth properly.

He wrote, “Sir, with due respect @adejobimuyiwa Why do you Police Image Makers always report what you were told without investigation? How can a suspect die of asphyxiation? That’s suffocation. Did you visit the scene so they show you where he died of asphyxiation ? Autopsy result is what you are coming to quote and also boldly tagging the young man a cultist who has not been convicted and can’t even defend himself now.

“DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS SACK K!LLING? OR I SHOULD EXPLAIN MORE? Did you make findings about his accusers? Did you visit the community where he was said to have killed and rape people?
