The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories and excessive heat warnings for all of Eastern North Carolina counties Tuesday, July 16, from 10 AM-8 PM.

Welcome to another hot and muggy day in Eastern North Carolina! The relentless heat wave continues with an Excessive Heat Warning in place for several inland counties, where heat indices could soar up to a sweltering 113°F. Stay hydrated and take breaks if you’re spending time outdoors.

As we move through the afternoon, expect isolated thunderstorms to develop driven by the sea breeze and a inland surface. These storms will bring lightning and brief, heavy downpours.

Tonight, the heat will not relent, with temperatures remaining around 80°F. While the storm activity will decrease after sunset, a few showers might linger into the evening.

Looking ahead, a more active weather pattern is on the horizon. Wednesday will bring a transition with morning coastal showers and afternoon storms moving inland. By Thursday and Friday, a stalling front will lead to numerous showers and thunderstorms, raising concerns for heavy rain and localized flooding. This trend is set to continue through the weekend, with on-and-off showers and storms expected.
