Bedford man charged with murder in Clearfield shooting

(Clearfield) - A Bedford man is in custody on 1st degree murder charges after allegedly shooting a Lenox man Thursday morning.

The Iowa DCI says authorities were called to Broadway Street in Clearfield just after 3 a.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon investigation, deputies found 19-year-old Colby Nelson dead from a gunshot wound.

A short time later, deputies took 37-year-old Alan Schultz into custody without incident. He has been charged with 1st degree murder.

Nelson’s body has been taken to the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny for an autopsy. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.

(Clearfield) -- State and local authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred early Thursday morning in Clearfield and left one person dead.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Office says shortly after 3 a.m., dispatch received a report of a shooting on Broadway in Clearfield. Upon arrival, authorities say they discovered a deceased male victim. The Sheriff's Office says one person of interest was taken into custody.

The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation was called to assist with the investigation along with the Adams and Ringgold County Sheriff's offices, Taylor County Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, Taylor County Attorney, and the Adams-Taylor County medical examiner.
