2027: New Power Bloc Emerges In Kwara

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a new political bloc christened Kwara Redemption Movement (KRM) has emerged in Kwara State.

According to a position paper exclusively obtained by LEADERSHIP, the aim of the KRM which claimed to be apolitical is, “to revitalise the state’s political culture and advance in a more progressive manner the collective interest of the state and its people.”

The two major parties in Kwara State are the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). APC took over leadership of the state in 2019 from the PDP.

However, the new group led by a former chief whip in the Kwara State House of Assembly and legal practitioner, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, noted what it described as “a grave political void in the political affairs of the state,” pointing out that while no organisation ever championed the holistic interest of the people of the state, “an organisation as strong as this must come to the state’s rescue.”

LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that the membership of the group is drawn from across the major political divide with full representation from the three senatorial districts of the state.

According to the position paper on the formation of KRM, the primary concern of  the movement is the alleged  poor leadership experienced by the state over the years and occasioned by “the worst selection process, which have often led to the negative development and progress of the state.”

It stated the preparedness of the leadership of the group to reach out to as many notable individuals and groups as possible “since part of its cardinal concerns is to unite the people and ensure that the principle of equity and fairness take a more centre stage in the state come 2027.

“For a very long time in this state, we operate governments that become dysfunctional as a result of misplaced priorities and mismanagement of the state economy,” it added.
