Samoa Agreement Is For Nigeria's Economic Development; Nowhere Was LGBT Mentioned – Budget Minister, Bagudu

Nigeria's Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, has denied recent reports claiming that the Nigerian government signed the Samoa Agreement, hinged on same-sex marriage and other conditions.

Many Nigerians are expressing outrage over the federal government’s decision to sign the controversial $150billion Samoa deal.

The agreement reportedly mandates underdeveloped and developing nations to support LGBTQ rights as a condition for receiving financial and other aid from advanced countries.

Reacting to the report in a statement on Thursday, the media assistant to the Minister of Budget, Mr. Bolaji Adebiyi, said that the documents signed by the federal government were strictly for the economic development of Nigeria; saying nowhere in the documents were LGBT or same-sex marriage mentioned.

He described the report as fake news, consisting of deliberately misleading or false information spread via traditional and social media, posing a significant threat to individuals and communities.

The short statement read, “The documents signed by the federal government were strictly for the economic development of Nigeria; nowhere in the documents were LGBT or same-sex marriage mentioned even remotely, and it would be wrong for anyone to imply that Nigeria had accepted those tendencies. What Bagudu signed was in relation to the $150 billion trade component."
