Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Luiza Lima, a distance specialist from Brazil, has announced her commitment to study and swim at Northwestern University starting this fall. Her converted LCM 800 free time would currently sit as the 3rd fastest 1000 free in program history for the Wildcats.

Lima was a finalist at the 8th FINA World Junior Championships (LCM) in 2022 in the 1500 free, capturing 6th (16:58.76) while representing Brazil. She also dipped under the 19th Pan American Games PST (“B Standard”) of 4:35.05 for the 400 free at the meet with her time of 4:23.74. Her time of 9:03.85 in the 800 free was also below the PST (“B Standard”).

At the 2023 Absolute Brazilian Swimming Championship (LCM), Lima walked out as a three-time finalist after securing 5th in the 1500 free (16:53.97), 5th in the 200 fly (2:16.61), and 6th in the 400 free (4:17.34). Her 200 fly time is still her lifetime best.

Top LCM Times and SCY Conversion

LCM SCY Conversion
200 fly – 2:16.61 200 fly – 2:00.54
400 free — 4:13.86 500 free – 4:44.43
800 free – 8:42.17 1000 free – 9:45.06
1500 free – 16:37.59 1650 free – 16:18.02

Lima has a chance to bolster the Wildcats’ distance squad upon her arrival. Her converted time in the 1000 free (9:45.06) would have ranked 1st for the Wildcats this year, while her converted times in the 500 free (4:44.43) and 200 fly (2:00.54) would have been 2nd.

The women at Northwestern placed 7th overall at the Big Ten Championships last season, compared to 6th place the previous year. At the Championships, transfer Ayla Spitz set new school records in the 200 free (1:43.80) and 200 backstroke (1:52.77).

Lima will be arriving at Northwestern this fall alongside Teya Nikolova, Sophie Martin, Lila Bleakney, Lilly Mehok, Claire Mehok, Brianna Deierlein, Zoe Nordmann, Grey Davis, and Olivia Detter. Nikolova, Martin, and Bleakney are also from outside the U.S., with Nikolova coming from Bulgaria, Martin from Australia, and Bleakney from Canada. With graduate student Spitz as the top distance swimmer from last season, the arrival of Lima, Nordmann, and Davis is timely, as they each demonstrate strength in distance events.
