First Alert Forecast | Rounds of heavy rain will drench north Georgia this-coming week

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A cold front has a few showers sweeping through north Georgia this morning. More widespread, heavier rain begins Tuesday and lasts, off and on, through Thursday. There are First Alert Weather Days in-place Tuesday through Thursday.

Under a cloudy sky, temperatures remain unusually warm Sunday morning. It is likely that Atlanta will break another temperature record today - the warmest low temperature on today’s date in recorded history. We’re waking up to temperatures in the mid to upper 60s in many spots.

Hit-or-miss rain showers are sweeping from north, to south, across our area this morning. Rain will be briefly heavy in a few communities. Most of the wet weather will be south of Atlanta by 7 a.m. and out of our area by 10 a.m.

This afternoon is shaping up to be drier-feeling and a bit cooler than yesterday afternoon. Temperatures remain fairly steady through the day; upper 60s and lower 70s around the immediate metro.

Monday features lots of clouds and cooler weather. Monday begins with temperatures in the upper 40s and lower 50s, followed by an afternoon in the low to mid-60s. Only spotty light rain is possible Monday.

A slow-moving storm system will interact with lots of moisture in the atmosphere to produce rounds of heavy rain beginning Tuesday. The morning commute with be damp, with scattered rain moving through the metro. Steadier rain is expected by the Tuesday evening commute and heavy rain is likely later Tuesday night. Rain lingers into Wednesday. Rain will be heavy at times. A few thunderstorms are possible. The risk of severe weather remains low. Road and street flooding are possible as the heaviest downpours move through. Rises on area creeks and rivers are also possible, especially Wednesday into Thursday.

Widespread rainfall totals between 3″ and 5″ are expected by the time this wraps-up Thursday evening; wettest north metro and mountains.
