Former President Donald Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial saw a claim that he was desperate to hide the news about his affair and payoff from his wife, but that idea is now being undermined via Raw Story.

Hope Hicks, a former adviser to the president, revealed on the witness stand that Trump instructed staff members not to bring newspapers to them first thing in the morning so she wouldn’t see the reports. Trump benefited from Hicks’ remarks, according to Politico reporter Erica Orden, because they highlighted his worries about his wife. Trump has defended himself by saying that the hush money had nothing to do with the election and was simply used to keep the affair secret from his wife.

The issue is that Trump’s use of newspapers as a means of withholding information from the former first lady was pointless because her chief of staff disputed that Mrs. Trump ever read them.

Hicks stated the court that she couldn’t recall whether Trump asked her about how the Karen McDougal story would affect the campaign. She explained that he “constantly asked her how things ‘were playing,'” Orden also reported.

“I had moved from the West Wing to the East Wing when the Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal news — when it hit — when we were in the White House,” said Grisham. “I did have a lot of personal conversations with Melania.”

“To see that he didn’t want to have the newspapers delivered to the residence — it made me smile,” she continued. “It sounds like something he would think of.”

Mrs. Trump doesn’t read newspapers, she explained.

“Melania watches the news like crazy,” Grisham said. “She keeps track of everything. She’s on her phone all the time. She never read hard newspapers like he did. That made me, kind of, smile. That that was one of his ways to hide it from her. It was never going to happen.”
