Rotherham United’s first pre-season friendly saw them at Roundwood where they took on Parkgate FC of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

The visitors had the first chance when a spot-on pass from Ollie Rathbone found Joe Rafferty who crossed it into the box finding Joshua Kayode who headed it towards goal but Liam Tomlinson was there to hack it off the line. On eleven minutes the Millers took the lead when Kayode sent in a low shot that Jordan Greaves in the Steelmen’s goal couldn’t get too. Greaves was in the action again a couple of minutes later when he did well to get across his goal and put the ball over the crossbar from a cracking shot from Joe Powell. Ben Hatton was the next to have a shot which rebounded of a Parkgate defender as far as Reece James who saw his shot come back off the crossbar to safety. The Steelmen had a chance on twenty minutes when a cross in found Alex Hardwick who put the ball high over the bar. Minutes later Rotherham doubled their lead after Powell’s shot from distance came back for JJ to get his and the Millers second of the night. Parkgate got a free-kick in a good position which Brandon Potts sent into the area but Jordan Hugill was there to clear. Another chance for Hatton saw him head wide which was followed by a Powell shot that flew wide. With five minutes of the half to go Hatton was on the ball again and he saw his shot put behind for a corner which came to nothing. As the half came to an end the hosts had a good chance to score when Jack Haslam had a shot from distance which went inches past the upright.

It was a full team change for the Millers for the start of the second half and it only took the ‘new’ team five minutes to make it three-nil. A super cross from Cohen Bramall found Sam Nombe in front of goal who slipped the ball into the net. Seven minutes later Nombe got his second and the Millers fourth with a shot from just inside the box and he got his hat-trick just after the hour mark when a ball from Christ Tiehi found him and saw him round the ‘keeper to make it five-nil to the League side. On sixty-four minutes a great run from Nombe saw him send the ball for Tom Eaves who got round the ‘keeper and made it six-nil. Academy player George Giwa brought off a good save from Greaves which was followed by a fourth goal from Nombe from close range. Eaves saw the ‘keeper save a header before a ball from Nombe was collected by Greaves before Eaves could get on the end of it. With two minutes to go Eaves rose above everyone else to get to a cross from Tiehi but a blue shirted player was there to clear off the line leaving the game at a seven-nil victory for Rotherham.
