Chelsea’s captain has expressed his delight at what’s just happened to a former teammate.

Reece James, 24, has already played alongside so many different individuals at Stamford Bridge.

The club skipper is one of the few players to remain in the Blues squad during a time that there’s been a major overhaul of the playing group.

James has now uploaded a message on social media after a former Blues player signed for a Premier League club this week.

Ross Barkley, who was on Chelsea’s books between 2018 to 2022, has just completed a permanent move to Aston Villa this week.

The 30-year-old central midfielder shined in the Premier League last season for Luton Town, albeit he couldn’t save them from relegation.

Now, Premier League club Villa have signed Barkley, who previously spent time with them during a loan spell a few years ago.

Barkley celebrated the news on Monday with an Instagram post.

It’s great to see Barkley has got his career back on track since leaving Chelsea.

The Englishman has always been a highly rated talent since his days as an Everton youngster, but his form massively dropped off as he got older.

Thankfully, he started playing his best football again in Luton colours. As a result, Villa have signed him as they prepare for Champions League football next season.
