On the other side of fate, Liz Schumacher, hailing from Chilton, was in dire need of a kidney transplant. It was through Shelley's selfless act that Liz received a new lease on life. Their paths converged in a remarkable twist of destiny, as they met in person for the first time, a year after the life-altering surgery.
"I walked out of my room and I saw Shelley and I knew, I didn’t know her, but I saw her walking the halls. I knew she was the donor — I just knew," Liz shared.
"Being able to impact someone’s life is pretty incredible so I just feel really honored, and I really hope more people consider it," Shelley expressed.
