A terrorist of Lashkar-e-Taiba's hit squad 'The Resistance Front' (TRF) was arrested by Srinagar Police in Baramulla on Tuesday. The officials said that the arrested terrorist was tasked to carry out a targeted killing which was foiled by prompt action of law enforcement and security agencies. According to Dainik Jagran, Baramulla Police received information that a TRF terrorist had entered the town to carry out a targeted killing.

In response, police and 46 RR soldiers launched an operation. Special checkpoints were set up throughout the town, and at one such checkpoint near Eco Park, a young man aroused suspicion.

Weapons, Grenades Recovered

The Naka party, stationed at a checkpoint, noticed the youth attempting to evade them by changing his path and running. Sensing suspicious behaviour, the officers chased him and captured the fleeing militant. A search at the scene revealed a pistol, a magazine, eight cartridges, and three hand grenades in his possession. The suspect was later taken to the nearby police station for further investigation.

Arrested Terrorist Was A Recent Lashkar Joinee

During questioning at the police station, it was revealed that the detainee was the same terrorist for whom the Baramulla Police, in collaboration with the Army, had launched an operation. Identified as Shakir Ahmed Lone, a resident of Dangerpora Sheri, he recently joined Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Lone disclosed information about his Pakistani handler and admitted plans to carry out a targeted killing and grenade attack on security forces in Baramulla. His interrogation is currently ongoing.
