He said the oath of allegiance that says ” I will not allow my personal interest(s) to interfere with my official assignment” is draconian in nature haven been drafted and coined during the military era.

He said the Military rule by decrees that makes the statement more suitable by the then system of government in place.

Lawan who is now a critical member of the people Democratic Party, PDP, called on the national assembly to revisit the section of oath of office taken and amend it.

“The above words it’s too rigid in democratic system of government, my personal observation or opinion the national Assembly should review it, it’s like we borrow the above words from military rule as oath of office. Politics it’s all about interest and favoritism some times and favoritism leads the way many atimes.” Lawan said

He worried that unknowingly Many politicians are being consumed by the oath taken because it’s a serious matter and it’s at the same time hard to keep to its sanctity.

Unlike the Military dictatoritarian law, Lawan revealed that Democracy is flexible in nature that’s why it’s being refer to the government of the people by the people and for the people.

“It’s hard for any politician to stick by that section of the constitution. In politics there’s always an under lying interest somewhere at any given point of a political situation.
