Nigerian Afrobeat Legend, Samklef has called out tech billionaire, Mark Zuckerberg on Instagram over what he describes as a ‘misuse undermines the platform’s integrity and fairness’.

Samklef who wrote a seemingly innocent comment that reads ‘He is not coming out today’ in response to a post about the continued detention of social media activist, Very Darkman says he got a message from Instagram describing his comment as ‘hurtful’.

Dear @instagram @zuck how can this words be harmful? (He is not coming out). My page has been constantly falsely reported by some Nigerians.

Instagram needs to address the misuse of the report button, especially in Nigeria, where it has been weaponized. There are reports of individuals being paid to report others’ accounts, leading to unjustified suspensions or bans.

This misuse undermines the platform’s integrity and fairness. Instagram must implement stricter measures to prevent abuse of the reporting system and ensure that accounts are only penalized based on legitimate violations of community guidelines, rather than as a result of targeted attacks or malicious intent. By addressing this issue, Instagram can uphold its commitment to creating a safe and inclusive online environment for all users.
