DAMATURU – The Emir of Machina, Alhaji Dr. Bashir Albishir Bukar Machinama, has today paid a courtesy visit to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Yobe State camp, bringing a blend of tradition and inspiration to the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 corps members deployed to the State.

In a captivating address, the Emir commended the former Nigerian Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), for the establishment of the NYSC scheme, describing it as one of the best initiatives of his administration that enhanced unity among Nigerians. He emphasized that Yakubu Gowon’s legacy would remain indelible in Nigerian history due to the enduring impact of the NYSC in unifying the Country.

The Emir further delivered a traditional lecture, detailing the cultural heritage, norms, and values of the people of Yobe State.

He explained the hierarchical structure of the Emirate, the diversity of tribes, and the unique traditions that define the region.

Sharing his own experiences from his service years in the early 1970s, the Traditional Ruler encouraged Corps members to embrace the NYSC scheme, highlighting its role in fostering unity and cross-cultural understanding among Nigerians.

He urged them to continue upholding the ideals of the scheme and contribute positively to their host communities.

Also speaking, Salamatu A. Muhammad, the NYSC State Coordinator for Yobe, expressed gratitude for the Emir’s visit.
She urged the Corps members to heed the Emir’s valuable insights and utilize the wisdom imparted during his address.

The event’s highlights included a traditional performance by the Machina Emirate palace Guards, the Emir’s insightful lecture, and a warm farewell. The visit was not only a cultural enrichment for the corps members but also a reinforcement of the NYSC’s core values of unity and national integration.
