In eastern Iowa, generous individuals are stepping up to donate blood, embodying the 'Be a Force for Good' campaign to assist those in need. The American Red Cross is hosting various blood drives in the region to support patients requiring blood, plasma, and platelets. Donor Incentives and Gifts: Participants in this blood drive stand a chance to receive exciting donor gifts, such as a Fandango movie ticket to watch TWISTER and an American Red Cross & TWISTERS umbrella. Moreover, donors are automatically entered into a draw to win a 2025 Ram 1500 Big Horn truck. Ryan Bartels, Collections Tech III for the American Red Cross, highlighted the critical need for O negative blood while emphasizing that all blood types are welcomed. Bartels mentioned, "It makes us feel good, you save up to three lives with a pint of blood. All blood types are needed, but mainly O negative, is a really good blood type we need. That is the universal blood donor." The upcoming blood drive is scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post 735 in Hiawatha. While scheduled appointments are preferred, walk-ins are also accepted. To make a donation appointment or to learn more about the campaign, visit the American Red Cross' homepage.
