CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga () – People who live on Garrard Avenue in Chatham County say they are concerned about their safety and property due to a sharp curve.

News 3 spoke to Roy Newsome, who said he has witnessed fender benders and car crashes.  He even witnessed a car crash that left one dead in his front yard. He blamed the sharp curve just steps away from his home.

He told us while safety is his number one concern, the car accidents are damaging too much of his property. He said it’s causing him to shell out money.

“I had a house over to the left over here and they come off the road and went into the bedroom,” Newsome said.

He continued, “This and my electric gates have been torn up. Last year, it was about 30 [$30,000] to $35,000 worth of damage done.”

He said he has tried to contact the Chatham County manager and engineer to find possible solutions to slow down drivers. However, he told News 3 they offered no real help.

“Get something done and do the job you were elected to do down there,” Newsome said.

News 3 reached out to the county for a comment regarding the concerns. They told us they will need additional time to look into the situation regarding the number of accidents that has happened in the area and future plans to possibly fix the problem.
