The Death of Robin Hood will star Hugh Jackman and be directed by A Quiet Place: Day One helmer Michael Sarnoski. In a new interview, the filmmaker shed new light on his Robin Hood adaptation and what fans can expect from his darker take on Robin of Loxley.

Speaking with Collider to promote his A Quiet Place prequel, Sarnoski opened up about The Death of Robin Hood, set to be released by A24, revealing that it will be both action-packed and intimate. "It's a little bit of both. It has a sort of different version of the epic Robin that we're used to, while also a very intimate story that's going throughout, as well," he teased. "So, it'll have a little bit for everyone in that sense."

Russell Crowe shares how he fractured both legs on the set of the 2010 film Robin Hood.

Announced in May 2024, The Death of Robin Hood, per the logline, "is a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale. Set of its time, the film will see the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, a battleworn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation." Jackman will portray the title character, while The Bikeriders' Jodie Comer will portray the mysterious woman.

The Death of Robin Hood Sets Filming Start Date

The Death of Robin Hood is set to begin filming in February 2025. Sarnoski, who has described the movie as his "smaller passion project," shared that he wrote the script before signing on to write/direct A Quiet Place: Day One in January 2022. "I kind of made a deal with myself where, if I was gonna do a big studio movie, I wanted to make sure I had my smaller passion project in the wings that I could be thinking about," he explained.

With The Death of Robin Hood having been on Sarnoski's mind since at least 2022, the movie has been in the works for a few years, even if it doesn't feel like that much time has passed for the director. "It is, but with movies, time collapses so much. You're shooting in February, that means you're gonna start prepping in, like, November, and then suddenly it's like, 'Well, November is only a handful of months away,'" he said. "The timelines compress pretty quickly, and there's so much to do — location scouting, figuring this out and that out, and getting the whole team together."

A Quiet Place: Day One Sets New Franchise Record

Sarnoski's feature directorial debut was the 2021 Nicolas Cage-led Pig, which put him on A Quiet Place director John Krasinski's radar. "I guess he liked it, because he reached out and said, 'Hey, do you want to bring a little bit of that Pig touch to A Quiet Place?'" Sarnoski recalled. Set during the first day of the alien invasion, A Quiet Place: Day One has already broken a major box office record for the horror franchise. The critically acclaimed prequel raked in $53 million domestically, setting the franchise record for an opening weekend. The previous two Krasinski-directed Quiet Place movies earned $50M and $48M during their respective opening weekends in 2018 and 2020.

A Quiet Place: Day One is currently playing in theaters, while The Death of Robin Hood does not yet have a release date.
