A photo the sheriff's office posted to Facebook appears to show Zimmerman walking out of a door unaccompanied. The sheriff's office said Zimmerman was at the courthouse for a hearing.

"Our Fugitive Apprehension Team is actively searching for Mr. Zimmerman, and I am confident we will apprehend him. We will be waiting for him at the Adult Detention Center," a statement from DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas Tuggle said.

Along with the murder charge from Houston and attempted murder charge in Southaven, Zimmerman also faces charges of taking away a motor vehicle, armed robbery, possession of a weapon by a felon and disorderly conduct.

DCSO said anyone aiding Zimmerman will also be charged with a felony. The sheriff's office asked anyone with information regarding Zimmerman's whereabouts to contact their local law enforcement agency immediately.

The 30-year-old escaped inmate is about 5-foot-11 and 210 pounds and had been in the DeSoto County jail since Sept. 29, 2023, according to the sheriff's office online jail roster.
