Former Nigerian international and Saudi 89 hero, Samuel Elijah, MON, has raised doubts regarding the selection process of Eric Sokou Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, questioning why Nigeria overlooked more qualified coaches within the country.

Speaking in Ilorin, where he serves as a coach and technical director of Kwara Football Academy, Elijah expressed his belief that Nigeria possesses superior tacticians domestically.

Despite his reservations, Elijah emphasized the importance of backing the newly appointed coach.

The Daman Miracle Hero, who achieved silver with the Nigerian Under 21 team at a FIFA tournament 36 years ago, pondered the decision to appoint the Franco-Ivorian-Malian coach over established Nigerian coaches such as Austin Eguavoen, Emmanuel Amunike, and Samson Siasia.

Acknowledging that the appointment of Chelle has been finalized, Elijah stressed the need for collective support towards the Malian coach.

He highlighted the upcoming challenges, notably AFCON 2025 and World Cup qualification, as crucial objectives for the team.

Elijah called for unity and encouragement from all stakeholders to assist Chelle and the Super Eagles in overcoming their current obstacles and achieving success on the international stage.
