About 30 degrees cooler, people celebrate 4th of July at Lee Canyon

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Situated more than 8,600 feet above sea level, Lee Canyon offers a refreshing break from the scorching heat wave engulfing Las Vegas. Revelers flocked to the resort to partake in outdoor festivities on the 4th of July.

A Cool Oasis Above the City

"4th of July weekend is a truly magical time up here," stated John Lira, Lee Canyon manager. "It's the perfect escape from the blistering heat, a chance to bask in the great outdoors, share drinks with friends, and savor delicious food."

Blessed with a higher elevation and brisk mountain winds, Lee Canyon registers temperatures 20 to 30 degrees lower than Las Vegas down below. The stark contrast is amplified by the fact that the city sits merely 2,000 feet above sea level.

"We wanted a break from the Strip to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the mountains," remarked Gerald Adams, a tourist from Louisiana. "The difference is incredible; it's like a breath of fresh air compared to the Strip." Adams expressed his desire to relish the mountain scenery with his loved ones, highlighting the tranquility of the outdoors against the bustling backdrop of the Las Vegas Strip.

Nature's Playground

Lee Canyon boasts a plethora of activities including mountain biking trails, hiking paths, and disc golf. Beginning on July 5, visitors can enjoy 18 rounds of disc golf instead of the usual 9, as announced by Lira.

Local Las Vegas resident, Adrianne Lopez, chose to commemorate the holiday in the serene mountains with friends. Lopez noted the relative solitude of Lee Canyon compared to the bustling crowd at Lake Mead, allowing for uninterrupted enjoyment of the natural surroundings.

"We have the freedom to traverse the mountain trails as much as we desire," shared Lopez, eager to spend his day mountain biking before returning to the city for the spectacular fireworks display.

In conclusion, Lee Canyon provides a cool haven for individuals seeking respite from the scorching Las Vegas temperatures. The 4th of July celebrations at this mountain retreat offer a refreshing change of scenery, beckoning visitors to revel in the beauty of nature while escaping the city's hustle and bustle.
