Abena Osei-Asare, Minister of State at Ghana’s Finance Ministry, has expressed optimism about the country’s economic outlook, citing ongoing structural reforms to sustain recent growth.

Addressing the inaugural Quarterly Economic Round Table (QER) at the ISSER Conference Hall on July 2, 2024, Osei-Asare underscored government efforts to bolster economic resilience.

She highlighted achievements in stabilising the Cedi against the US dollar, improving gross international reserves, and reducing the rate of public debt accumulation following a successful debt restructuring.

“We are successfully containing recent pressures on the Cedi, enhancing our gross international reserves, maintaining fiscal consolidation, and reducing the pace of public debt accumulation post-restructuring,” Osei-Asare stated.

She also noted significant milestones, including the recent approval by the IMF Board of the second review and the release of US$360 million related to the program.

The QER, organised in collaboration with the University of Ghana, focuses on evidence-based policy formulation under the theme “Restoring Macroeconomic Stability,” emphasising fiscal, debt, and monetary policies.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently revised Ghana’s growth forecast for 2024 from 2.8% to 3.1%, attributing the improvement to signs of economic stabilisation.
