Civil Beat has been covering the various corruption cases in Honolulu since 2014, when former HPD Chief Louis Kealoha and his deputy prosecutor wife, Katherine, were accused of trying to set up her uncle for theft of a mailbox, a federal crime. The FBI and special prosecutor investigations into abuse of the public trust in Honolulu eventually spread to the county prosecutor’s office and into Honolulu Hale itself. That final case recently ended with the news that the former Corporation Counsel, managing director and chair of the Honolulu Police Commission would concede to minor charges. Sentencing still to come.
