President Ruto Mobilizes Cabinet Secretaries to Engage Public and Clarify Government Agenda

President William Ruto has directed Cabinet Secretaries to actively communicate and clarify the government’s agenda to the public. In a bid to counter misinformation, Ruto has tasked his Cabinet with engaging Kenyans through live TV and radio shows.

The President emphasized this directive during a Cabinet meeting on Thursday at State House, highlighting the importance of frequent media appearances to bridge information gaps.

On Friday, Ruto himself will engage with Generation Z to address their concerns following recent protests against his administration.

The government is addressing misinformation and disinformation that affected the withdrawn Finance Bill of 2024. Over the past three days, several Cabinet Secretaries have appeared on top TV stations to update the public on Kenya Kwanza’s progress and listen to citizens’ concerns.

The Cabinet on July 4/7/2024.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, Public Service and Government Delivery Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, and Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki are among those who have already made media appearances.

Kuria, appearing on KTN News, stressed the urgency of delivering results without delay. Duale, on Citizen TV’s JKL show, assured the public that Ruto is in control and explained the government’s response to recent protests, including the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to prevent potential attacks on key institutions.

Kindiki addressed concerns about police response to protesters, denying reports of abductions and insisting that all detentions were lawful arrests.

More Cabinet Secretaries are expected to appear on various media platforms to inform the public about government programs and address their concerns.

These sessions aim to provide Kenyans with opportunities to ask questions and seek clarifications about the Kenya Kwanza agenda.

President Ruto will mark two years in office on September 13. In a recent interview, he acknowledged that his Cabinet could have communicated the Finance Bill, 2024, more effectively.

Former Cabinet Minister Kipruto Kirwa, however, criticized Ruto’s planned engagement with Generation Z, suggesting that the President should allow other government organs to interact with the youth before stepping in himself.
