Ahead of embarking on an official visit to Russia on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that India seeks to play a supportive role for a peaceful and stable region and said he is looking forward to reviewing all aspects of India-Russia ties with his “friend” President Vladimir Putin.

“I look forward to reviewing all aspects of bilateral cooperation with my friend President Vladimir Putin and sharing perspectives on various regional and global issues. We seek to play a supportive role for a peaceful and stable region,” an official statement released by the PM on his website stated.

This is PM Modi’s first bilateral visit in his third term, and also his first visit to Russia ever since it invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

During his two-day visit, the Prime Minister is set to attend the 22nd India-Russia annual summit. “The visit will also provide me an opportunity to meet the vibrant Indian community in Russia,” he said.

Following his engagements in Russia, Modi will embark on a historic visit to Austria, marking the first by an Indian Prime Minister in over four decades.

Stating that Austria is India’s steadfast and reliable partner, Modi said that he looks forward to taking the partnership to even greater heights in new and emerging areas of innovation and technology.

“In Austria, I will have the opportunity to meet President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Karl Nehammer. Austria is our steadfast and reliable partner and we share the ideals of democracy and pluralism,” he stated.

Modi said he looks forward to exchanging views with business leaders from both sides to explore mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities.

Besides this, he will also be interacting with the Indian community in the country, whom he praised for their professionalism and conduct.
