NYSC DG to corps members: Service year is not for jamboree — be responsible
DG of NYSC Brigadier General YD Ahmed

YD Ahmed, director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has advised corps members to obey camp rules and serve their fatherland responsibly.

In a statement, Eddy Megwa, director of press and public relations of the NYSC, said Ahmed handed the advice during his address to the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream One corps members.

The event held at the Edo state orientation camp, Okada, and Delta state orientation camp in Issele-Uku.

The director-general also warned them to steer clear of hard drugs, fraud, cybercrimes, hooliganism and other social vices that can jeopardise their future.

“NYSC is not a safe haven for criminals,” he said.

“Try and participate in all the camp activities that are deliberately targeted to make you better citizens.

“Be security conscious of your environments and do not endanger your lives.

“The service year is not for jamboree but a time to reflect on your lives and add value to yourselves and your place of primary assignments.”

He also implored corps members to maintain clean and hygienic environments within and outside the camp in order to stay healthy.

Ben-Ushie Frances, Edo coordinator of the NYSC, said 1,478 corps members, comprising 594 males and 884 females, have been making meaningful contributions to the success of the orientation course.

Olusegun Alao, Delta state coordinator, said 1,933 corps members, consisting 811 males and 1,122 females, were registered.

Alao said the corps members are disciplined and have been integrated into the various camp committees.

He added that there is a cordial relationship between all camp officials.
