LAGOS: The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo has congratulated the new Managing Director of The Graphic Newspaper, Mr. Y J Itopa.

Fanwo, who charged the new MD to be pragmatic, diligent and committed in discharging his duties, stated this in his office yesterday when a team from The Graphic newspaper paid him a courtesy visit.

 According to the Commissioner, Itopa has been appointed into the office to build bridges and reorganise the departments of the newspaper, noting that he has no doubt that the new MD has the capacity to deliver.

Speaking further, the Commissioner encouraged him to bring everybody in the newspaper sector together, saying that progress could only be recorded where there’s unity, oneness, peace and understanding.

“You’re going to The Graphic to build bridges. I’ve no doubt, I know you have capacity. See everyone as your own. Bring everybody together. Progress and success can only be recorded where there’s unity, oneness, peace and understanding,” Fanwo said.

Itopa, in his response, pledged to put in his best, adding that he’s prepared to work in harmony with the staff of The Graphic and the ministry in order to ensure that the newspaper section achieves its set goals.

In another development, The Kogi State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, through the Commissioner for Information and Communications awarded six Information Officers for excellent performance in writing and submission of articles and press releases on the activities and policies of the government through their principals in various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

According to a press statement on Wednesday signed by Adegboyega Segun,

Information Officer, Ministry of Information, the winners on Essay/Article Writing are:-1st Position – Mrs. Princess Funsho Sumonu, 2nd Position – Mr Shuaib Abubakar and 3rd Position – Mrs Jumoke Ajani.

“While the recipients of the awards for Writing And Submission Of Press Releases for the month of June are:- 1st Position – Mrs Mariam Adams Teni, 2nd Position – Mr Odofin Philip and 3rd Position – Mr Segun Adegboyega.

“The cash prizes were presented by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo in his office in Lokoja while hosting the State Information Officers.

“Hon. Fanwo reiterated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s unwavering support and commitment towards the development of the ministry and every sector in the state disclosing that the award would be on monthly basis for the best three in writing and submitting press releases on the activities and policies of the government, “ he added. 

Fanwo emphasised that the winners were not assessed on the number of articles or press releases but on the quality of the reports, and encouraged  Information Officers to be diligent, meticulous and committed in carrying out their daily activities in their various MDAs.

The statement noted that an earlier report delivered by the Director Information Services, Mr. Sunday Adeniyi commended the Commissioner for his concern for the welfare of all staff of the ministry and for initiating laudable programmes, stressing that it enables Information Officers to collate the achievements of Governors in their respective MDAs which had been compiled into magazines.

He described Fanwo as a committed, workaholic, sagacious, ebullient, charismatic and pragmatic leader worthy of emulation.

Princess Funsho Sumonu, while thanking Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and Hon. Kingsley Fanwo on behalf of the awardees, commended their unwavering commitment to reward the best officers, pointing out that the initiative would spur dedication by the officers.

She promised that they would remain diligent and committed in discharging their duties in various MDAs.
