The chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) Bauchi State Chapter, Kabiru Adam, has said that livestock production can generate substantial revenue through modern livestock systems, calling for collaboration with the state government.

Adam said this at a news conference held in Bauchi, the state capital, where he expressed the association’s commitment to collaborating with the Bauchi State Government to revitalise the moribund meat factory and establish security structures within communities across the state.

According to him, reviving the state-owned meat factory would create employment opportunities and facilitate economic growth.

He noted that the emergence of new executives within the association would serve as a bridge between the government and the people, aiming to make livestock production a source of revenue through modern production systems.

Adam highlighted the state’s major socio-economic problems, which had been worsened by the decline of its once-thriving meat industry and security issues from herder-farmer conflicts and banditry.

“The revival of the meat factory and improved security are crucial steps towards stabilising the state and the country. The modernization of processing facilities will also contribute to higher-quality meat products suitable for local consumption and export,” Adam said.

He also highlighted that partnerships would enhance security by improving community-based security structures, which are crucial for safeguarding lives and property in rural areas.

“The Association’s involvement in security initiatives will promote peaceful coexistence and reduce incidences of conflict and criminal activities,” he stated.

Adam called on the state government to desilt all the silted earth dams, enabling pastoralists to use them during the dry season and reducing their movement to other states.
