The National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) on Tuesday swore in 1,550 corps members in Kaduna for their three-week orientation course with a charge by Governor Uba Sani to be agents of change by contributing their quota to the development of the state.

Governor Sani also tasked the youth corps members comprising 707 males and 843 females, to position themselves for national integration and rapid socio-economic development of the state and the country at large. He assured that his administration will continue to support and encourage Corps members by fulfilling its statutory obligations to the scheme.

The governor, who was represented by the chairman of the NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu, challenged them to “ensure that you build bridges and establish meaningful relationships across your origins, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds by living peacefully with your colleagues throughout the three weeks of orientation course.”

The state coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Hassan Mahmud, said the three-week orientation course was structured to prepare corps members for the compulsory one-year national service. He informed them that the orientation camp is highly regimented and all programmes are compulsory. He noted that the programmes were designed by the NYSC management to equip them with vital information, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills that they need to carry on with the next phase of the service year and beyond.

The oath of allegiance was later administered on the 1,550 youth corps members by the Chief Judge of Kaduna state, Justice Muhammad Lawal Bello represented by Justice Y. Badamasi. The oath-taking ceremony marked the official opening of the Kaduna state 2024 Batch “B” Stream 1 orientation course.
