A yet-to-be-identified driver who was driving the wrong way along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway has reportedly killed one person after ramming into a motorcycle.

This is just as two other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash that occurred at about 3 pm on Sunday.

PUNCH Metro gathered on Sunday from the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, that the accident involved a Honda 315 and a Bajaj motorcycle.

The Honda driver, according to Akinbiyi, was reportedly driving against traffic when it collided with a motorcycle coming in the right direction.

The impact of the collision was said to have led to the death of one of the three victims involved in the accident.

Akinbiyi said, “According to the eyewitness account, the driver of the Honda car heading towards Ifo drove against traffic at Abule Oko inbound Abeokuta and hit the motorcycle rider coming opposite him at the bend.

“The pillion rider and passenger affected were rescued to the State Hospital Ifo by some Good Samaritans, while the pillion passenger was confirmed to be dead by the doctor and deposited at the State Morgue Ifo, while the pillion rider was still at the Ifo State Hospital receiving treatment.”

The TRACE spokesperson, however, expressed condolences to the dead victim’s family while urging motorists to shun the act of driving against traffic.

“While TRACE commiserates with the family of the deceased, motorists are again warned against wrong-way driving because of its attendant consequences,” he concluded.

PUNCH Metro reported on May 11 that one person died in a road crash that occurred along the Ayedere village in the Obada area of Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Akinbiyi had confirmed the incident in a statement.

Akinbiyi said the accident involved three persons with two of the victims sustaining injuries. He had attributed the cause of the accident to speeding, saying it led the vehicle to tumbled to the opposite section of the highway due to loss of control and the slippery nature of the road.
