Lagos, Nigeria – Mr. Olusegun Osinaike, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Education District IV, known as the Blooming District, warmly welcomed the students of Wesley Girls Senior Secondary School who won the 2024 Stockholm Junior Water Prize at the National Final held at the Embassy of Sweden in Abuja.

The victorious students, Ariori Balikis and Abdulsalam Khadijat, along with their teacher, Oyewale Wasiu Abioye, and Principal, Mrs. Bankole, were congratulated for their outstanding achievement. The students’ innovative project, named “FLOODWISE,” is an automated flood management system designed to mitigate flooding and efficiently repurpose water.

FLOODWISE integrates a flood indicator, a biofiltration setup, and an eco-roof, working in harmony to convert floodwater and rainwater into usable water for non-potable purposes such as washing and flushing. By combining real-time flood monitoring with sustainable water treatment and storage solutions, FLOODWISE aims to enhance urban water resilience and promote eco-friendly water usage practices.

Mr. Osinaike applauded the students’ efforts, emphasizing that the result of hard work is more work. He encouraged them and shared words of wisdom to steer them towards success in the upcoming International Final, which will be held in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary expressed his pride in the students’ accomplishments and his confidence in their ability to excel at the international level. He acknowledged the dedication and support of the school’s administration, teachers, and the entire Education District IV community in nurturing these young talents.

This remarkable achievement by Wesley Girls Senior Secondary School not only showcases the Excellence of Education District IV but also highlights the potential of Lagos State’s youth in driving innovation and sustainable development. As the students prepare for the International Final, the District and the State stand united in their support and belief in their continued success.
