Daily Star 2024/10/6

Horror fans in the UK can finally stream one of the most terrifying films of the decade on Netflix from tomorrow. Smile, a 2022 horror film that was released theatrically will be available to stream on the UK version of the platform.

Since its release in 2022, Smile has become a huge hit with horror fans

2022's top-earning horror flick, branded "unhinged" by gobsmacked viewers, is set to drop on Netflix UK from tomorrow (July 9).

Horror buffs have been singing the praises of Smile, which trails a therapist (portrayed by Sosie Bacon) as her life spirals into chaos following the eerie death of a patient, triggering a series of spine-chilling and utterly jaw-dropping supernatural events.

The real kicker? The spooky spectre at the heart of the movie first rocks up grinning ear to ear before showing its true, sinister colours.

To promote the film, 'Smilers' were planted at real-life events

Raking in a whopping $200 million at the box office after its launch, off the back of a relatively modest $17 million budget, it clinched the title of 2022's most lucrative horror. It's fast becoming one of the most bone-chilling movies of the decade, thanks to its crafty jump scares, hair-raising tunes, and an atmosphere that'll have you looking over your shoulder long after the credits roll.

Fair warning it's not for those who scare easy, reports the Mirror. Keep your eyes peeled too for a very familiar face in Jessie T. Usher, who pops up as Trevor. Following the horror film, the actor snagged a big part in the Amazon Prime smash The Boys, zipping around as the swift superhero A-Train.

Netflix fans outside the UK have been watching Smile for a while now, with the flick shooting up Netflix's worldwide chart of top 10 most-watched movies and TV series back in May. It racked up a whopping 4.7 million hours of watch time in its debut week on the leaderboard, and from tomorrow, Brits can finally see what all the fuss is about.

The 2022 hit streaming on Netflix comes as Smile 2 is set to drop on October 18 this year. The official blurb teases us with the tale of "global pop sensation Skye Riley" who starts facing "increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events" amidst the madness of stardom.

The cast features You star Lukas Gage and Naomi Scott is taking the lead. Chatting to SiriusXM's Jess Cagle Show, Lukas Gage spilled the beans on how the sequel's shoot was so intense it made him "physically ill" and he even "vomited off-camera" during one intense moment. If that's your cup of tea, you'd better queue up the first movie on your Netflix list.

Smile is available to stream on Netflix from July 9.
