Hand-me-downs

maderatribune.com 2024/10/6

My sister and I were born two years apart. She is the older one. As we were growing up, we shared a room and were always bickering with each other. The reality is that I adored her and looked up to her, but I annoyed her. I was care-free and sloppy. She was particular and neat.

Because I was the younger one by two years, when she outgrew something, it became mine. I loved it. I got some great clothes from her. Because she was so particular about her things, those items she could no longer use were always in primo condition.

We called those things “hand-me-downs.” I don’t think people use that term anymore. They are now “gently used,” or “second hand” items.
